day 6: lost time day.

I met Hajime one last time at Hamamatsuchou Station, or thereabouts, to pick up my monocular which I had left at the restaurant the previous night. (I took it off with my raincoat but didn't put it back on. duh.) I owe Hajime SO much for his help in this trip. If I have a daughter, and he's still single when she turns 18, she's his.
Went back to Ueno and, after revisiting the park, I saw the National Science Museum. Not everything was translated into English, which was too bad because their exhibit on evolution made me really curious about it.
After that, I went back to Asakusa and stocked up on those pastries with the red bean paste in them. Hopefully I can find a local source; they're to die for.
I'm back here relatively early, to pack for my trip and hopefully to find some information on whether my connecting flight to LAX has been diverted. Maybe I'll get to go directly to Phoenix.
Hajime couldn't hang out this time, so I thanked him for all his help.
Meanwhile, in the midst of writing this post, I just finished helping the hotel clerk communicate with some Swiss people on the phone. The clerk was Chinese and was trying to spell out the website name, but couldn't pronounce the name of the letter "g".

Date: 2003-10-29 05:06 am (UTC)(The Romans had previous used the letter C for the purpose, but they also used that to represent the K sound. This is because they inherited it from people who had no hard G sound in their language and had stopped using C for that, as had been done by the people they got it from.)
You probably knew that.

My friend, who majored in Asian Studies, claims that ever since The Tale of Genji, the Japanese philosophy has been "If you want the perfect wife...raise one!" I think that's unfair, Princess Maker notwithstanding. Then he said "I like my women like I like my scotch - twelve years old". He scares me sometimes.
