So I noticed some weird things in the supermarket today.... notably, jalapeño jelly.

I wonder if it would go well with soybean butter for a sort of Asian PB&J, but then I remembered jalapeños are more Mexican than Asian; the Asian food I've had favors bell peppers. And, truth be told, I don't much care for jalapeños.

But then, I have this jar of soybean butter I impulse-bought from Trader Joe's a few days back... maybe I could combine the two weird ingredients in a sandwich for an Asian-style peanut butter and jelly kind of thing.

Of course, that has a significant chance of being totally vile, and I'd hate to throw away TWO nearly-full jars of stuff, so I didn't buy it.

So I'm seeking advice on what else I can do with either of these.

Jalapeño jelly is great for dipping jalapeño poppers in.

And what are jalapeño poppers?

Stuff a jalapeño with cream cheese, bread it, fry it. Most places serve them with ranch dressing. I can't believe you haven't heard of 'em before. It's probably the regional delicacy. Even Sonic and Burger King have them on the menu.

...Ah. I've had Ched-R-Peppers at Sonic, and what happened was, I bit into it, and scalding hot cheddar cheese squirted to all corners of my mouth, and all over my hands, too. In trying to get the convection I needed to cool the cheese down, I looked very silly.

Maybe they just don't do it right, but I can't understand how those nuclear hazards could be edible, regardless of the taste.

That's part of the fun, although using cheddar is some violation of the law, I'm sure.

jalapeno jelly is actually really good. it's sweet, usually, and tastes nothing like jalapenos. i love the stuff.

and i can't believe you've never had jalapeno poppers either.

I got some jalapeno jelly at one of the tourist traps in Scottsdale last year. It's neat, but has limited usefulness.

Maybe I'll mail some to my friends in Germany.
