I bought a pack of
Pirates at Game Depot last week, just to check it out. It looks like fun. Each deck consists of cards with pieces that you punch out to build your ship pieces. That's a neat idea, and probably works quite well for sailing ships. I haven't built mine yet.
The website tells you
how to play with some great Flash animation. But it doesn't give me any advice for properly storing or transporting a completed ship. I doubt I'm expected to disassemble the ships and pop them back in their cards, but likewise I can't just throw them away. Keeping them in a sack or a box seems to be the only option, but they seem too delicate.
Lots of card/board games are hard for me to play with my eyesight problems, but the rules here, at least for the basic game, seem straightforward enough that not much long-distance reading is required during the game itself. I just need to take note of the ships' special abilities before the game starts. I also might have trouble keeping track of which ships are whose, especially if I try playing with more than two players.
As another update, I noticed something stuck to my elbow, and it was a tiny six-sided die. I guess it came with the game so that they could say it included everything.
