Some of these Star Trek episodes don't stand the test of time.

In this TNG episode that's rerunning on G4 right now, the entire planet lives in idyllic peace, because every crime has a death penalty.  Except that implies that any country that has a death penalty should see the complete elimination of those crimes punishable by death, right?  But that doesn't happen.  So, meh.  Maybe it works because they're aliens.  Or maybe it's that weird pan-dimensional thing they found that made it work.  What evah.

Well, I don't recall a whole lot of due process of law, trial by a jury of peers, appeals process, or any other elements that might be relevant to the episodes implications as you put them.

That episode didn't even stand the test of watching it when it first aired.

hey, if you kill everyone who makes any kind of infraction, you're de facto getting rid of criminals. so no crime.

can't remember if that's the logic they followed, but it's hardly comparable to the US's system.

if i do remember correctly, the point of the episode was to watch the women run around in those flesh-baring outfits. i recall it being a contender for poster-image for the bite-a-thigh foundation.

*chomp*
