I read Apple is working on a red iPod Nano, again with cooperation from U2, this time to increase awareness of AIDS in Africa.

I'm quite aware of AIDS in Africa.  In fact, that's the only thing I know about Africa.  Everyone has AIDS there.  Some people have it two or three times.

OK, that's a lie.  I also know about the poverty, the female circumcision, and that king of Swaziland who picks a new wife every year and banned the color red from broadcast television.  And if I say "Nigeria", what's the very first thing that comes to your mind?

Perhaps if I had some awareness of something in Africa that didn't make me queasy in some way, I'd be more jazzed about the red iPod.

Maybe I ought to try that Ethiopian restaurant.  It'll humanize the continent once I've had some of its food.

I don't really like the spongey bread, which is apparently a big part of the attraction for Ethopian restaurants.

Injela or Injala bread, which is made from teff, a wheat with no gluten-forming protein. So apparently they let it ferment a bit to capture some air. I suspect that the attraction is not so much the bread itself but the novel fact that the bread acts in place of both the plate and the eating utinsels.

But do you know about Prester John? Perhaps there should be an iPod nano to raise awareness of Prester John, because so many legends about Prester John's kingdom place it in africa (although the first legends seem to place it in the middle east or far east.)

The first thing that came to mind with Nigeria was soccer. Honest. But i'm a big nerd about soccer. Not that i want to derail what is a fine post with my nerdiness.

That I'm a sucker for not helping some sweet Nigerian widow get her husband's multi-million dollar fortune.

Do I win?
