What kind of a word is "youngling", anyway? Real words don't use "-ling" as a suffix.

I'm going to assume you actually mean real non-gerundial nouns don't end in -ling, as any such gerund formed from a verb ending in l would have that ending. Even so, there's hatchling, starling, the previously mentioned fingerling, and likely at least a few others. (And Merriam-Webster seems to think youngling is a real word....)

I always took the word for a Yoda-ism (yodism?), rather than official terminology. Then again, I haven't seen the new film yet.
