I went to the dance tonight.... I had no mojo tonight. I had nojo.

The thing is, since tonight's dance is a prelude to the lindy hop workshop tomorrow, I felt a little obligated to try some lindy hop, despite my limited success in doing that dance socially. And while I managed to do the basic lindy hop, any attempt to add variation to it caused me to lose sync completely. And I can't just do a plain vanilla lindy hop for an entire song; I don't want to bore my partner to death.

I dunno. I don't feel good about going to the workshop tomorrow, but I'll give it a chance. Those who know what it's going to be like say I definitely need to show up for at least the Lindy 1 class, and that the instructors are amazing. It's one of those things I'll really regret if I don't go. And maybe my lindy hop will improve to the point where I can display it in public without shame..

But one reason I'm glad I came is that I met some of my competition, particularly, one guy I've seen dancing with a number of women I like. He asked me if I like Star Trek. Then he and this other guy started talking about the upcoming conventions and what costumes they want to wear. I suppose now I have reason to consider him slightly less of a threat, or at least, not a devastating obstacle in my path to warming up to that redhead.

I mentioned that I had to leave to catch the bus home to one of our normal instructors who'd shown up, and he ran off and convinced someone to give me a ride home. He was, while maybe not flambuoyantly gay, then perhaps the most likely homosexual I've met in a long time. And his car was parked like a mile away, since he thought the dance was at the club, and not the lake. And when we got to his car, he started screaming obscenities all of a sudden, and it turns out someone broke into it and stole his radio, and his backpack, with his laptop and PDA and calculator inside. That was one awkward situation. He called his mother on the cell phone for comfort, though, and I got home safely.

You are very brave to attempt this. Women who can dance will be appreciative of your efforts. The good thing about swing dancing, is that if you can master the basic step, all you really have to do to vary it is lift your arm and let the girl twirl. Your partner can help you lead too. Most girls have been dancing with their sisters and best friends since they were 5 and are very competant at leading. Swing is flexible that way.

Have fun! : )
