Last night, the Stargate reruns reset themselves on the Sci-Fi Channel.

6:00: I got to see a recent-looking Groundhog Day episode where O'Neill and Teal'c get caught in a time loop.

7:00: the pilot episode! Since we see Apophis taking a lot of women's clothes off, I suppose this was before they settled on their current low levels of fanservice -- indeed, didn't the show originally air on Showtime? The show's pretty good, but it seems to have some shortcomings at this point. What an astonishing coincidence it is that the two people Apophis chooses to get snaked are the two people to whom SG-1 members have emotional attachments. But I like that guy with the Polish name, and I hope we see more of SG-2 in future missions.

9:00: The first episode after the two-part pilot. So much for that guy with the Polish name. Also, the spelling of "Teal'c" is established. How'd they decide to spell it that way? (for any value of "they") We also start to get sick of that cheesy movie effect where the villain's eyes glow, thus revealing that he is evil, possessed, or both, though of course they don't glow all the time because that would spoil the surprise. They just glow at random times. By the time I started watching the series, it was more clever than this.

10:00: Carter meets the Mongolian Taliban. Possibly the first time I've seen Carter in any variation of "dolled up". And the middle 20 minutes is nothing but the Evil Chieftain slapping Carter around and demonstrate what a dick he is. The payoff for that is when she fights him in a duel and wins a neat and tidy ending for the episode. And that fight was good, though short.

I'm glad the show eventually found its groove.

That one is very near the top of a lot of people's favorite episode lists.

That show was masterfully paced. Interesting how they waited until halfway through the episode to introduce Teal'c's starting point.
