Aug. 11th, 2002 11:44 pmBefore I got on the plane, my boss called me into his office.
Apparently the best time to deliver a laundry list of all the things an underling is doing wrong is right before he spends the next four hours alone in planes and airports.
Especially when one of those things is websurfing, which I assure you is a survival habit. Even when there is lots of work to be done, a lot of it involves pressing a button, waiting two minutes for something to finish, pressing two more buttons, waiting two more minutes, pressing two more buttons... you get the idea.
I made the dumbest move ever: I admitted that maybe it could be partially responsible for my high error rate.
Also, at lunch that day before I left, some other co-workers expressed surprise that I would be busted for surfin', because they too surf constantly and share the opinion that cut-and-paste programming is torture.

Date: 2002-08-12 12:05 pm (UTC)If you've spent the last two and a half years letting all your leet skillz atrophy at a crap job, while the economy is in a huge slump, and it feels like there are thousands of reasons that you'd never make it there... it feels monumental.
Maybe I should become an Objectivist. They never think like this.
