Ever convince someone that an Onion article is real? Like, say, a newspaper editor in Beijing?

Man, those Beijinginites are easier to troll than Star-Ledger columnist Larry Hall...

What's up with Larry Hall?

P.S. Didn't a bunch of religous fundies believe the Onion when they reported something on Potter causing satanism?

And you complain about the state of journalism here.

According to this article, the Beijing Evening News isn't admitting any wrongdoing unless someone proves to them that the story wasn't true.

Of course, that article also says that, "Trouble is, it was lifted straight from The Onion, the satirical ''news'' publication based in New York that has caused countless American readers to double over with laughter at its weekly spoofs on current events," when theonion.com's masthead says:

"Corporate Offices
33 University Square, #270
Madison, WI 53715"

Although they do have a New York office, and the editor is quoted as speaking from his home in New York. The Globe just reported what the were told without going to the website, I guess.

And I guess YOU just believe whatever the website's masthead says, don't you?

Need to go to Village and see what the print version's masthead lists. Maybe the wib-site is out of date.

If it's on the Internet, it MUST be true!

The last time I saw a paper copy was maybe two months ago. I don't recall what the masthead said, but the paper was full of Wisconsin-oriented ads.

Onion's rules on location of it's offices

I believe it was the book 'Our Dumb Century' that had a bit on how they keep their office location vague so they don't get swamped with submissions.

I'm done beating this horse, I swear, but this doesn't seem to me particularly like they're hiding.

A few years back

some friends very excitedly showed me the hotheaded naked ice borers article, without the date of the source, and had me completely convinced despite the explorer's obvious name. The weird thing is, they never brought it up again, and they were definitely the kind of people to play a joke like that over the course of weeks. I can't help wondering if they had been taken in themselves.
