it is capitalism. with christian iconography where convenient.
capitalism has had crusades where we convert infidels by the sword. at home, we shun heretics who preach such blasphemy as "welfare". the priests tell us to make painful sacrifices to please our gods, the billionaires -- and they have no obligation to reward us, indeed it is accepted that the misfortunes we suffer come from them.
now there is a plague
