The code that implements the comparison operator was pretty well-obfuscated.  It took me a week to find where it was getting the data type of the left side of the equals sign.  So now it does that fine; it knows whether I'm comparing two strings or two numbers, and throws the ?TYPE MISMATCH error if I try to compare one to the other.

The numeric compare shows hints of working.  It knows 2<3 but doesn't know 3=3.  I suspect that if I fix this, I'll fix the problem with FOR-NEXT loops that never really went away.
