Mar. 29th, 2009 04:49 pmSo last night I made the epic journey to Chandler Cinemas again. There was thumping music and a bunch of kids lined up outside the theater. One of them begged for my water. I found out they rented out most of the theater for a rave, and people interested in actual movies had to use a back entrance, and Rocky Horror was playing in a smaller theater than usual. Also I think it was fetish day, so a lot more trannies than usual -- in fact, I usually don't notice the trannies at all. I sat next to two women who were speaking French to each other the whole time; I never found out whether they were participating or what. Stuff happened.
I didn't really talk to anyone the whole night, even at IHOP, where I ate at a booth alone. I probably could have joined some people who were already there, but I didn't really have it in me. RHPS is a fun time, but it's probably not where I'm making the most new friends.
I think that for making new friends, my best chances are at meetup.com events, and in particular, Science Café, where in March I participated actively and chatted a little bit, even.
But my mood has been very low today, as is my activity level. But there's still enough hours left today to improve things. I'll get some reading done. Next weekend, I want to have my whole weekend planned out, so I can keep my mood up the whole weekend.

Today the paper shopping bag I use for empty aluminum cans started overflowing, so I took it to the Whole Foods, the closest place I could think of with a recycle bin.
Between the floppiness of the paper bag, and the plastic wedges that obstructed the opening of the recycle bin, I couldn't just pour the cans in right away. But feeding the cans in one by one was tedious, so eventually I tried anyway. I held the bag up to the opening, and I held it tight, and shook the bag. Cans are light, so I couldn't really feel them falling out, but I could hear them. But eventually, five or six cans made a break for it.
I got all but one of them right away, and put them away. But one can was rolling away very fast, and made it well into the parking lot by the time I'd collected the rest.
I would have let it go, but there was a woman and her child waiting on the curb, and I felt I had a chance to make a good example. But I didn't think to look to see whether their attention was on me; I just went after the can.
When I caught up with the can, there was an empty plastic cup that I also picked up. I recycled the can, the cup, and the paper bag.
