house hunting
Mar. 13th, 2007 09:45 pmI went out looking for houses for sale. I chanced upon one where the owner was actually hanging out across the street, and invited me to check the place out.
He was in the process of replacing the carpets, so all the rooms had that echo thing to them. The living room was huge. The three bedrooms, on the other hand, were tiny. The lone bedroom in my apartment is bigger than the master bedroom, and the closets are the smallest I've ever seen. This house may just be too small even for this lonely guy, and I have a hunch I'd have a hard time selling it in a crunch.
That aside, I really liked the neighborhood. Neighbors were talking to each other, children were playing, and a friendly neighborhood dog was unobtrusively investigating my presence. It brought back memories of the neighborhood I grew up in. The downside, of course, is that those kids will be teenagers in five years, and that'll make the neighborhood suck rapidly.
$195,000 is the price for that one. There's two other For Sale signs nearby that I found, but didn't go into: a similar house for $199,000 that comes right up to 48th Street, and another 48th Street house that I don't even know the price of. But they'll have to be pretty impressive if they're going to be worth the colossal budget hit.
