For some reason I have the most fun drinking with co-workers, and the rest of the time, drinking usually isn't much fun.

Usually I have a beer or two when I have dinner with [livejournal.com profile] t_h_e_m, and I've gone drinking with [livejournal.com profile] littledevi and [livejournal.com profile] ernunnos and [livejournal.com profile] jecook and various combinations of their friends, and when I do that I usually end up just going deeper into my shell. But, with the co-workers, I get louder and boisterous.

I wonder if there might be something to that, or whether there's selective memory at work.

I suppose the libertarians are right about the way markets adjust to fill needs that wouldn't otherwise be met. In the San Francisco Bay Area, I suppose the market has decided that currency itself isn't doing much good for the community, and so they invented BREAD, which is measured in hours because it is backed by labor. It is valued at about $12 per hour.

How long do you think it'll be before the Feds start to get involved and fuck everything up? The FAQ says that local currencies are legal, and already taxable.

But how do I know this isn't already exploiting the community more than it's helping?

Regardless, Emperor Norton would be proud.

I suppose you're wondering how I'm progressing on making that game for the Contiki Desktop Environment.

Well, it looks like there's no hard documentation about how to program for it, and it doesn't seem to be designed in a very programmer-friendly manner. You can't just write a program, compile it and "run" it from Contiki; it has to be compiled right into the OS. And adding a program requires one to modify a lot of files, as I discovered when trying to add a "Hello World" program to the desktop. I'm still not finished.

Maybe I'll wait for the next few versions and maybe by then it'll be a little more developer-friendly.
