I remembered this morning that when I was a kid, I liked the Howard the Duck movie. Then I remembered that, by adult standards, the movie sucks. So I felt embarrassed.

Then I remembered that, by kid standards, the movie was awesome. It was like a muppet-cartoon thing, only it didn't have that thick layer of sugar coating that I was just starting to grow out of. If anyone ever challenged my 10-year-old self about the merit of Howard the Duck, I'd point out that in the first two minutes of the movie, you see two separate instances of duck boobs.

On the other hand, I have no excuse for watching Saved by the Bell. That show sucked. But, Tiffany-Amber-Thiessen,, so, yeah, I did have an excuse.

Isn't the whole point of being a kid to indulge in bad taste while you learn to separate the wheat from the chaff?

A while ago, I posted about FPGA Arcade, which sought to reduce the entire circuitry of an arcade game into a single chip, using hardware technology so new and cryptic, it uses FOUR-letter acronyms instead of three!

At the time, the only game posted was Pac-Man, but in the time since I last posted about it, they've posted links to two more projects: a Galaxian chip and a Space Invaders chip.

You may wonder why you should care about this.

Simply put, it means that anyone with enough eggs in his head can now build an arcade machine completely with off-the-shelf components from Fry's Electronics. So instead of paying $800 for a Pac-Man PCB on eBay, you can make your own, or buy one made this way. If it's not cheaper now, it will be before long.

The question does remain of where you're going to get the arcade cabinet, the monitor, and so forth. Now that anyone can make a PCB, demand for used arcade cabinets, joysticks and monitors is sure to take off.

My left hand is still a little delicate.

Screw it. I'm going in tomorrow for the X-rays.
