(no subject)
Oct. 8th, 2002 12:21 amI got a Liquid Television video on clearance, hoping it would have a copy of Grinning Evil Death on it. It didn't.
A lot of mid-90's animation seemed to take inspiration from Ren & Stimpy, drawing things as grotesquely and deformedly as possible. The Raisin cartoon is particularly notable for this; all the characters have their left eye drawn in an entirely different style than their right eye, to begin with. And we see lots of gums. Gums for everyone!
And, of course, lots of Aeon Flux. A spy in a thong! Somehow I just got confused. And not very attracted to Aeon; she's all angles and no curves.
And there was also Crazy Daisy Ed, which has probably either relation or ligitation with Bob the Angry Flower.
One thing I saw on the video that I never saw before was "Big City", a sort of miniature rap opera about a woman who moves from Africa to America to start a new life. It was actually a beautiful story, everything was fluid and had a sort of neon, ethereal quality to it. I usually don't like rap music, but apparently that owes to the subject matter of popular rap, and that did not apply here. It felt more as if I were listening to a story and feeling music behind it.
I have another tape full of animation, as well as the second half of Black Adder I and four six-hour tapes full of Doctor Who that someone sent me.... so I have little excuse to be bored this coming weekend.
