Sep. 27th, 2002 10:56 pmI'm halfway through my third time watching Amelie. I'm seeing how much French I can understand without the subtitles.
I'm starting to notice another theme throughout the movie: indirection. In one scene, there's a baby that's watching a dog that's watching some chickens. It's a throwaway scene, but it's what made me notice. In another scene, Amelie is chasing Nino who is chasing this other guy. And when the gnome is traveling the world, he's doing it in place of Amelie's father.
Indirection is a concept that comes very natural to programmers. Those of you who don't program probably wouldn't know what the hell I was talking about had I not provided examples. I suppose it's another way the movie is meant to identify with the terminally clever.
