Well, most immediately, I'm exhausted after getting lost on the way to the hostel. I asked someone working at the BART station for directions and she kept trying to get me to go to the one by Fisherman's Wharf or something. After many phone calls both on my insane-roaming-charges Qwest phone and various halfwitted payphones, I found my way here and I'm safe.... though I lost my camera bag.

I lose a lot this trip. Time, my camera bag, and my telescope. But I got my telescope back.

Anyway, the albinism conference. Uhh, met lots of cool peop-le. Met somje guys with albinism that were more jockish and testosseroned than most of my friends without albinism. I recognized a lot of people I met at the last conference in Boston in '00. There were a lot of pretty, smart girls there, but they were mostly teenagers. I collectged many many many e-mail addrtesses and I hope to actually stay in touch this time. Especially since my mother will demand pictures and I'll have to pass someone elses' off as my own. I bet I can arrange a neat little cover-up in that regard.

So, my plans for tonight: websurfing, laundry, dinner, and aimless wandering around the city... and also figuring out what I'm going to do with the Cherlins tomorrow.

I cannot read y'all's Livejorurnal because this terminal has some kind of lame content restriction. What gives?

Being in SF reminds me a lot of being in Europe, except it's not made awkward by the language barrier. But for some reason tourist information doesn't seem to be as easy to come by at the hostel; there's just a few tourist maps available, not the massive array of pamphlets one finds elsewhere touting all and sundry attractions hither and thither..

Then again, maybe I'm idealizing my memories, so who knows. In Berlin, all there was was the Berlin Walks pamphlet, and a similar sort of map which I used to try and piece together recommendations that the Berlin Walk tour guy made.

Also, the LED signs at the Concord BART station are all fux0red.

But I only have one full day in this city and I want to know how best to spend it.... there's a walking tour that leaves from the hostel at 6, which is the only one I seem to be able to find.... I have friend in town who can drive me some of the time, I've seen Fisherman's Wharf and the unremarkable Haight & Ashbury.

Went into a shop and looked at bongs. I thought pot smokers made their own bongs out of banana peels and stuff?

But if I learned anything from [livejournal.com profile] littledevi and her trips, it's that travelogues are much easier to read when they don't ramble on, as I'm prone to... so I'll sum this up when I have the chance.
