I showed up very late to the THEM meeting tonight. Just in time to hear everyone's media reports degenerate into general chatter about TV and movies. For dinner I suggested Chino Bandito, which nobody had heard of; I told them it was a sort of Chinese/Mexican fusion place. They decided, instead, to go to World Noodles, a great, inexpensive noodle place that Angel had read about. It turned out to be similar, since it served noodles from all over the world.

We spent the next two hours talking about game shows here and abroad, the wide world of sports, including American Gladiators and some sports I'd heard the names of but never learned what they were. The game talk continued even as I was being driven home; Erik and Ed tried to explain the concept of non-zero-sum gaming to me.

I should have written this entry earlier in the night; it was more fun than I made it sound.

What, do you think England is ready for guns, Jason? :-)

I remember hearing on NPR about a CD that's supposed to be full of sounds that make it seem like someone else is in the house when they aren't. It includes sounds like putting away groceries, reading the paper, stuff like that.

I think I could use that CD right about now. It'd help me learn to ignore sounds from adjacent apartments, like I used to.

Every so often, you hear of glass companies who offer to pay your deductible, give you gift certificates, etc. if you let them replace your windshield.

This latest commercial I saw advertises that they give you 53 free meals at Hooters with a windshield replacement.

Why are windshield companies so desperate, and how do they make their money? Someone must be getting royally screwed: either the driver or the insurance company.
