I am now an INTERMEDIATE dancer!
Sep. 2nd, 2001 01:30 pmAfter my beginners' Lindy Hop class yesterday, I stayed for the intermediate lesson. AWESOME!
I learned new moves very very quickly. It owes partially to the teachers; they went through like three moves in fifteen minutes. Unfortunately, I ended up forgetting them almost as quickly as I learned them, and got confused quickly. But it was my first intermediate class, and considering that, I kicked much ass.
Two things of note: as I left, someone arrived who had moved to Portland but was in town for the weekend. She said that people aren't friendly in Portland, that the swing clubs down there are much less sociable and laid-back, that she never gets asked to dance.. Also, that she knows of exactly two clubs with swing nights (as opposed to the three that are commonly known in the Phoenix area). And one of those clubs has swing night only once a month! Eek! I don't know if I want to live in Portland anymore; I thought it was happenin' but apparently I was wrong. She's the second person to tell me that Oregonians don't like "outsiders", so if I hear it from a third source, my brain will lock into that meme and convert it into a full-blown prejudice. So, please, somebody counter.
Also, as I was leaving, a woman in an Atari T-shirt entered for the next class.
