My mother hands me something she wanted to give me, show me, or ask me for help with.
It's usually less than thirty seconds later before she starts talking about something else she wants to give me, show me, or ask me for help with.
I suppose the urge to do that is greater when one is pressed for time.
Humans have a limited supply of attention. Taking in information uses up some of that supply. Therefore as the amount of information goes up, the amount of attention goes down.
