I just bought me a sleek little language translator and travel alarm and phone database. It's got a huge display, but it flips open so it doesn't take up that much room.

The only problem is, by using it, I lose Cool Worldly Traveler points.

I remember this one child's toy being sold on television, this Spytech device that would pick up infrared, and it would detect heat from the human body even in the dark. If this thing had that, THEN it would be a Tricorder and I would kick ass and avoid muggers after dark.

Of course, anyone with a PalmPilot could download a few programs and do just as well I bet.
