Oct. 16th, 2019 06:45 amBefore Facebook, people put their own websites up, and if they had any serialized content at all, whether it was podcasts or text or images, they could put up an RSS feed. this was basically just a big XML file that listed all the posts in a machine-readable way. And I think it's still how audio podcasts work. Every browser handled them natively, lots of websites could aggregate them for you. People liked Google Reader for this, but Google killed it before I had a chance to try it.
if we're going to free ourselves from zuckspace, bringing back Livejournal through Dreamwidth ain't enough; we'll need to bring back RSS feeds.
