How would I fare in the SF Bay Area?

I'd be leaving a state that's trying to turn its schools and hospitals into immigration sting operations, for a city that wants to ban the marketing of fast food to kids.

I love it here. It depends on what you want, but it's a very nerd-friendly area. Great food of a wide variety of styles. And you can't beat the weather.

Also, public transportation in the Bay Area seems pretty good. I know the natives complain about BART all the time, but compared to Sacramento, it's amazing.

It depends on what kind of job market is there for your field and how the pay rate compares to the cost of living (which is insane in the city).

You would be moving to a state with a completely defunded education system and infrastructure management worse than some third world countries. SF is one of the better-run areas of the state.

Economically the Northeast is doing better than Cali right now. Weather sucks compared to SF but there are places with good public transit.

Well, despite the rep of Phoenix being a rather xenophobic place, I actually found the people there more warm and personable on an individual level by far compared to when I lived on the coast.

It's awesome. The public transportation is wonderful. And every day feels like vacation.
