Picked up some St. John's Wort. Couldn't hurt.

It's ground herbs in a gelatin capsule. I wonder if I should have got an extract of some kind instead. Or, if it's all a scam that I've just fallen for.

St. John's wort was no more effective than placebo in treating major depression of moderate severity. There is some scientific evidence that St. John's wort is useful for milder forms of depression.

even if it does work, i seem to remember you would have to stick with it for a few weeks or more.

There's some evidence that it does work, for some people. Possibly just placebo effect, but it could be that different people have different reactions to it, due to quirks in brain chemistry.

But, yeah, don't think of it as a magic happy-pill. Heck, even regular prescribed pharmaceutical antidepressants aren't magic happy pills.
