Something changed when I got back from Europe that turned me into this. What the hell was it? Maybe a year or so afterwards.

Up until around 2003, I tried new things and learned new things as a matter of course. At some point, a trap door opened up under me, and since then I've been pretending.

It's actually a pretty neurological thing that happens to most people to a greater or lesser extent around the age of 30ish. I can dig up some cites if you're interested.
