Jan. 26th, 2009 01:53 pmI've never played Settlers of Catan or similar games for the same reason I didn't try WoW for so long: afraid that my visual impairment would slow me down.
Braille and large print adaptations of games seem to be limited to the games we now regard as most generic: chess, checkers, Battleship, and Scrabble.
Maybe this is a problem I can solve. I'll go to the game store and start asking questions.
In other news, I'm feeling better enough that I'm having ideas again. It remains to be seen whether I'll stick with any of them to completion this time.

Date: 2009-01-26 09:52 pm (UTC)Although there aren't any large print adaptations of catan, I do think some of the tiles might be bigger in other versions
And on the subject of catan itself, a lot of the cards and material is color co=ordinated
you would have problems with development cards, and maybe dice, resource numbers and piece placement.

Date: 2009-01-27 02:20 am (UTC)I stopped by Game Depot today to ask about this. The resource numbers, as they come out of the box, seem to come in a bit of a low-contrast font, so maybe those could be improved.
