So I was on the bus Saturday night and there were three guys talking about women, specifically the drunkening thereof. At least one of them had making her pass out as a goal.

What stunned me was that there were three of them. How does any one of them tolerate the other two?

I guess it comes back to not displaying sadness, anger, or boredom. These are the things that drive people away. They could be the only things that drive people away.

It's possible that I've wasted my whole weekend with cooking and attempted social activity, when instead I should have been working on my shit-eating grin and vacant laugh.

Considering I use my LJ to display essentially these three emotions, the prudent thing to do would be to quit LJ entirely. It's too bad because it's the only way I'm in contact with many of my friends. But, it might be necessary.

We all need a place to vent, dude. Just because you go away from the venting place doesn't mean the feelings go away.

Perhaps. But if I vent only to myself, then everyone will think I have my shit together and be drawn to me.

I don't agree... the point of venting is that you let it out. If you're keeping it to yourself it's not the same. You'll be repressing yourself, people will be able to tell and that turns people off more than draws them in.
Even if you're ranting, people can get into that, at least they know you're opinionated and honest. It reassures them (I have people say that about me all the time), while on the other hand quiet people usually come off as superior or self righteous and at the worst creepy and untrustworthy.
As for the guys on the bus... they tolerate each other, because they're probably pretty alike and as disgusting as they're behaviour and speech must be, they probably can't find anyone else to hang with.
