I've been hearing, but not watching, ads on TV for "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans", with a lot of shouty dialogue that tries really hard to evoke "300".

But because I hadn't seen the title, I had assumed that it was about lichens.

I'm not saying that would be a better movie, but I'd be more likely to see it out of curiosity.

I'm pretty sure there's one minimal pair of ordinary words showing that the sounds in "lie" and "like" are separate phonemes in most Northeastern dialects, but I can't remember what it is right now. Hire/higher and spire/pyre are nearly minimal. In any case, I would syllabify this word as "lie-ken," not "like-n" as the kid in the commercial does.

A lichenthrope would be what I feel like when two cats pile on top of me, I guess.
