This review articulates my thoughts better than I could.

tl;dr: Halfway through the movie, it becomes a different, not-as-good movie.

It's a fair cop.

Dark Knight easily could have been two movies -- one chronicling Harvey Dent's fall from grace, and a second one covering what happens next. By two hours in, I was a little fatigued watching it. Also I had to pee.

I remember when movies had a 90-minute to 120-minute range. So they fit on a VHS tape.

It seems that movies have some kind of imperative to be either under 90 minutes or over 150 minutes.

Considering they both cost the same, and consumers know it, maybe there's a little extra pressure to go for the epic side.
