fireworks report
Jul. 4th, 2008 11:50 pmI saw the fireworks. It was a feast for the senses.
I decided to spend the rest of the night bar hopping in downtown Tempe, which is a bit uncharacteristic.
I'd seen the underground bar before but never went in. I saw "dueling piano bar" on the sign and remembered my parents and my brother.making a big deal about there being one in Westgate. I went in, and it was like reverse karaoke. Songs were being played live and everyone was singing along. I wish I'd discovered this place much earlier, or at least before my favorite musical memes wore out.
A woman noticed I ordered a lemonade, for they had no iced tea except the Long Island variety. I made a point to make sure it wasn't a Mike's Hard Lemonade, and recounted the story of the dad who lost his kids to the state because a stadium clerk made that substitution at a ball game. A bit of a conversational dead end, but I was surprised I was sharp enough to think of it so quickly.
I then stopped by My Big Fat Greek Restaurant to sit outside and watch people pass on the sidewalk, while I enjoyed an Arnold Palmer under the mister.
All throughout, I picked up cans and bottles and put them in the recycle bins. I even moved a few bottles from ash trays to recycle bins. That felt good to do.
A young couple chatted me up on the bus. The guy kept exclaiming, "Bob Saget!" It turns out he was imitating some tourette's guy on YouTube, which I'd never heard of. His girlfriend, OTOH, confessed to being less savvy on computers. I was skeptical of that claim at first, this being 2008, but she has a Mac and doesn't know about iTunes. I told her to click the music note on the bottom of her screen and enjoy.
It was overall a very pleasant night. I don't think.I recaptured my spirit of youth, but I caught its scent tonight.
