Yesterday, in downtown Tempe, all the benches had these stencils painted on them that said "Great Depression 2, Coming Fall '08!" Do these serve any purpose at all? Are there people out there going "well, the anonymous graffito is right, I better go stockpile canned goods and fresh water and try to buy my Y2K bunker back. It's in red, so it must be true."

Alongside it were more stencils, this time with a Call To Action, saying "Boycott Fiat Currency". Yeah, great idea. Are they talking about just Sun Dollars, or the federal reserve notes that most landlords tend to demand in exchange for shelter? I don't know if I can talk them into accepting my rent in gold dust.

I don't understand people like this, who secretly seem to be wishing gleefully for the end of the world, so that they could stand atop the rubble pile with a backpack full of ammo and rations and exclaim "I called it!"

I'll give 20 euros to anyone who gets a can of pink spray paint and covers up those stencils with rad rad robotank.

It's actually pretty easy to explain. They're losers who can't make it in the current order so they want everything to fall so they can either claw to the top or laugh at the comuppance of others. Sad thing is, they're usually the types who would still be losers even if the order fell, of course being a loser there means being beaten to death, as opposed to being a low level office slave.

Aw, that's not fair... I wish for the end of the world all the time, and I'm not like that. Of course, I'm specifically wishing for the Zombie Apocalypse, so maybe that makes me different somehow.

I think I'm the only one who DOESN'T wish for the Zombie Apocalypse. I just never got into zombie movies.

There are lots of people hoping for a non-zombie Apocalypse. I think the difference between those people and zombie enthusiasts is that they want to live in a world where they can shoot people without any consequences, whereas we want to shoot people without any consequences OR any guilt.

Note that almost every Romero zombie movie contains a line of dialogue in which someone is told something like "THAT'S NOT YOUR BROTHER JIMMY ANYMORE, SHOOT IT."
