Smug Stencils
Jul. 3rd, 2008 02:43 pmYesterday, in downtown Tempe, all the benches had these stencils painted on them that said "Great Depression 2, Coming Fall '08!" Do these serve any purpose at all? Are there people out there going "well, the anonymous graffito is right, I better go stockpile canned goods and fresh water and try to buy my Y2K bunker back. It's in red, so it must be true."
Alongside it were more stencils, this time with a Call To Action, saying "Boycott Fiat Currency". Yeah, great idea. Are they talking about just Sun Dollars, or the federal reserve notes that most landlords tend to demand in exchange for shelter? I don't know if I can talk them into accepting my rent in gold dust.
I don't understand people like this, who secretly seem to be wishing gleefully for the end of the world, so that they could stand atop the rubble pile with a backpack full of ammo and rations and exclaim "I called it!"
I'll give 20 euros to anyone who gets a can of pink spray paint and covers up those stencils with rad rad robotank.
