OK. Haven't figured out how to turn the monitor off without putting the computer to sleep. So I'm leaving it on full power while I download bittorrents.

System Preferences to Energy Saver (it's in the second row of icons - pic of a lightbulb) then use the sliders to put the display to sleep after a certain amount of time.

Looks like they got the good ones, I'll say that you can alter your displays brightness and turn it all the way to 0% will turn the screen off
