big day

ow. Yesterday was brutal: I hit the weight machines at the gym, went swing dancing, and instead of going home after that, I went to Rocky Horror Picture Show. I went home and encountered a plumbing problem that kept me up another few minutes, and I was up until 4am.

Even though I'm exhausted, my bioclock wouldn't let me sleep past 8.

Also, I think my pectoral muscles hurt. I'm not sure as I think yesterday might have been the first time I really worked them out. This was in the morning, before all the drifting around Mesa.

I'm going to take it easy while I can.

Also, I didn't realize we still had a dollar theater. I remember seeing Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure circa 1988 in one, about ten times. It blows my mind that it can still charge a dollar; even soda hasn't stayed 50 cents for that long. Apparently Chandler's is the only one left, and they're only now considering bumping it up to $2.

Weights are like THE BEST THING you can do for your body. Remember that when your muscles scream in pain.

right. If I can go do that often enough for long enough that I actually see results, maybe it'll become a habit.

Which is better: morning or evening?

I don't know a whole lot about the industry, but I gather that movie royalties begin at about half the ticket price or greater (and it is a percentage) at the movie's release. After it hits the DVD/PPV market, the price drops quite a lot, and that's when the dollar-theaters can run a movie. They also tend to be in the middle of nowhere with cheap real-estate, and cheapen out on everything else. Not in a bad way. They probably still lose money, but that could be okay if it's owned by a cinephile or something.

The owner of the theater hosts Rocky, so that might explain it. Chandler isn't exactly the middle of nowhere, but in a city as large as Phoenix, it's far from central.

The timing must have changed a little. Back in the day, a movie would be in the dollar theaters for a few months before it was on video.
