unbibiumI checked out the first three episodes of "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr" on Netflix. It was a western series that aired on the Fox network in 1993, starring Bruce Campbell in the title role as a ridiculously competent Harvard lawyer turned bounty hunter, a renaissance man for the old West. His adopted lifestyle seems incongruent with his quest for the "coming thing", something the 20th century will surprise humanity with.
And his horse doesn't know he's a horse. And he helps Gomez Addams improve the design of a rocket. And, there's an orb that gives you superpowers.
It's got a high cheese factor when compared to other Westerns, if for no other reason than the occasional infusion of science fiction. But it has a low cheese factor when compared to Campbell's films.
It looks good enough to have lasted longer than it did. Fox has been shafting good shows since long before Firefly, and this is one of the shows that trained me to start taping everything I watched in college. Apparently the show premiered on the same night as the X-Files. And I remember watching this show every week, but never got into the X-Files. And it was years before I learned anything else about Bruce Campbell. I tend to take strange wrong turns in fandom; can you tell?
