It's iffy. I think it would be acceptable if your phone was dying and you had an urgent need for its continued life.

The only reason I'm against lying to get it is because I'm really bad at lying, and would probably end up blushing or incriminating myself in some way that would be embarrassing.

I would come up with one with the same connector as mine but reversed polarity.
I actually do have a cordless phone at home that uses a common battery type with the plug reversed.
