Last night, I was careless enough to mention Monty Python quotes, and the people next to me started rattling them off, and they fed off each other for two minutes before the subject mercifully changed. And, because I wasn't paying attention the first time, it happened twice.

When this happens, I call it a "Pythoff".

I wonder if it would be evil to make up something that sounds like a Monty Python quote and pretend it was from some obscure episode just to make nerd's heads explode.

You're on.

There are some people I know who've never seen any of the works of Python. They'd be easy to fool.

Yeah, but imagine the fun of poking a Python expert that must then search his entire DVD collection to come up with the quote source. Or perhaps they would just pretend to be "in the know".

Yeah, I'm a bad person.

If you teach it to the newbie, then they might repeat it while the mark is in the room but you're not, thus giving you deniability.

Next thing you know, it's on Wikipedia.

Even better

would be if you can do it with something a Python actually said, but in a totally stupid context like a bad TV commercial or a Harry Potter movie. Hmm, or something he might have said in such a context if it hadn't been cut by an editor, such as "now, please applaud, or you'll hurt me."

Congrats. You may be more evil than me.
