Super Mario Bros clone in Jabbascript!

It works in Mozilla, but the graphics seem a little glitchier in Mozilla 1.5 than in previous versions. It also works in Internet Explorer.

Most text is in Japanese, but controls are pretty straightforward -- Z to dash/fire, X to jump, arrow keys move, down arrow goes down pipes and crouches.

According to Babelfish, they recommend a 3 GHz machine to play it well. I find the controls and frame rate a bit sluggish on my 1.2 GHz Athlon. But it's still fun to watch the demo play through.

It'll be obvious right up front that this is an imperfect clone. The graphics are all completely different; for example, Maryo has a kawaii cat head, and a Y in his name. All the characters are different in such a way, but easy to identify with their Nintendo equivalents. There are a few extra features and other embellishments. As the game progresses, the levels deviate from close copies of Nintendo's Super Mario Bros, to completely new and difficult levels. The most significant change in gameplay is that you can get extra height from bouncing off defeated enemies, a feature that Nintendo didn't introduce until Super Mario 3.
