I'd like to write one of thoſe web filters to ſee what web pages would look like if typeſetters never abandoned the long lowercase s.

And when exactly did þe letters Þ and Ð fall out of faſhion?

I've found a page þat deals wiþ how to ſort Þ, and all þe conſiderations þerein.

It alſo ſeems þat þese characters are more difficult to diſplay properly on a Macintoſh þan on a PC.

I may be wrong, the impreſsion I had was that the long-s was only used when two s's appeared in succeſsion...

According to the Straight Dope, the long s was used when the 's' was at the beginning or in the middle of a word, with the regular s (also called the 'terminal s') being used when the 's' was the last letter in the word, although apparently this rule wasn't always followed.

No trouble here. I suspect the Mac problems are with older browsers and OS revisions.

Or with web pages that haven't been updated since 1996.

I know that Macs seem to have trouble making the fonts match up for some characters; I've noticed some Esperanto pages where Ĝ/G are subtly different, as are ĝ/g.
