AUGH!

You know how sometimes you injure your foot really bad and you're immobilized for a few minutes but then the endorphines kick in and you feel better, so you just go about your day?

When does one learn NOT to do that?

It happened right outside a fire station, too, so I could conceivably have had an EMT look at it and get me an ice pack, and I might have been fine now. Also, somehow hobbling around on foot is hard, but riding my bike around town was easy, even when it started to wear off and I realized my quick stop at the Home Depot might not have been such a good idea.

Oh, also, I found an ankle brace that would have been perfect to keep my foot in place. Except it's for the wrong ankle.

Chiro

The skeptical community universally rejects chiropractic. But last night, Stace brought up a valid point, that there's no way insurance would pay for it if it were entirely a scam.

Perhaps, but some folks somewhere are getting insurance to pay for things that are entirely scams, like reiki or reflexology.

Medicine is tricky because it's so serious, and the claim of "this cured me" and "this made me feel better" seems less extraordinary a claim than "you should have done nothing, because it healed itself". The placebo effect claim is even harder to digest, because the relief would not have occurred without the treatment, so what's the proper alternative?

Regardless, if you're in pain, you see a doctor, which is what I'm doing. If I'm suspicious of anything, I get a second opinion if I can. But as a layperson this is all I can do.

When my dentist says 9:40, she means it.

In contrast, it's nearly 11 now, and all I've learned is that nobody has stepped up to strangle Sylvia Browne yet, and also how much weight I've gained.

Gained weight? WTF.

I posted about two rock bands who put spaceships on their albums, and was greeted with other examples of same.

For over a decade, you could get 3D mesh data for typical starships. There was a public access TV show with way more equipment than it knew what to do with, and it rendered its own take on the Battlestar Galactica intro, with a rag-tag fleet consisting of Enterprises, DeLoreans, X-Wings, and a giant toilet. Presumably, the producer downloaded all of these from FTP sites.

I wonder if there are similar 3D mesh objects floating around for these rock-album ships?

The first two DVD's of "Jack of All Trades" showed up through Netflix this week.

I'll say, if you're going to have a show where the laws of physics don't apply, admit it clearly up front. Like by using a billowy dress as a parachute. Seriously. The old Super Mario 2 maneuver.

But the bad guys are French. (Update: bonus points for the inclusion of submarines, and Benjamin Franklin.)

Cheap fun. Whatever.
