Shrimp chips and cow chips are not as similar as you'd think.

I'm afraid I haven't been following the Senate race too closely, so this latest Pederson-bashing ad by Jon Kyl (R-AZ) took me by surprise.  It's almost too cliché from the very first frame, where we see an unflattering photo of Pederson, probably taken on the toilet.

So Pederson made a speech at "Town Hall Meeting 5/19/06" which contained the phrase, "Bring the bacon home, they call that pork."  And Kyl is using that clip, and nothing else of substance, to attack him.  Is there a man, woman or child watching who doesn't think that was quoted out of context?

But that wasn't the laugh line, nor was the use of actual pigs and twangy Western music to drive the point home.

It was the "trillion dollar tax hike, just like John Kerry!"  Wow, it's two years later and the Democrats still haven't lived Kerry down, and even independent candidates are getting zinged.  I bet the Republicans will still be using him in '08.  Maybe even '12.

I'd really like to see a clever third-party candidate try to use Kerry against the Republicans.

Update: I checked out AZ Congress Watch to see if there's any commentary on this, but it appears only actual news is featured on that page. But I did see a (D) next to Pederson's name in the Candidates sidebar. But his ads said "independent", and I thought "oh, that means he doesn't belong to a political party" like a dumbass. So Jon Kyl could win the entire too-apathetic-to-check-facts vote back by just saying "um, did you guys know Jim Pederson's a Democrat? Yeah, you're not dealing any blows to the two-party system by voting for him. Here's some more cute pictures of pigs." And yes, I missed the primaries. I suck.
