TiVo Tyranny
Nov. 12th, 2003 10:23 amI thought I was the only one who was becoming overwhelmed with all the stuff TiVo was recording.
When you're obligated to do something -- even to watch something your TiVo has recorded for you -- it takes much of the fun out of it.
Maybe when I get home I'll post a list of what's still on my TiVo and whether I've watched it, or whether I plan to tape it.

Lesson #13 centers around a minor character's futile attempts at picking up women. He describes all the old tricks: dropping papers in front of someone, asking them for a lighter, that kind of stuff.
Lots of the characters are "imperfect" in various ways. Georgette complains nonstop, Marie-Laure is a brat, and Robert doesn't have any bills smaller than 500 francs.
Yes, francs. The series is from 1987.

I used to carry around a Strongbad messenger bag. It was a little easier to deal with than my backpack, but not by much -- it had this giant flap you'd have to swing open before you could dig around in it, and it didn't have any little compartments you could use to organize things. Closing it was even more awkward because you had to line up that stupid clasp. And when the awkwardness contributed to my almost losing my camera in Tokyo, I decided to get a new one. So, for about the same price, I got this green bag, with zippers everywhere and a cell phone compartment on each side. It's functional, but ugly as hell.
Except, I miss the compliments I got on my Strongbad bag. One woman even asked me about it two weeks after the last time she saw it.
So, I'm faced with a dilemma. If I keep the green bag, I'll stay organized and I'll be able to do things like find my cell phone easily, keep my papers separated so they don't get crumpled against my umbrella, and so forth. Or, I can bring back Strongbad, and the ladies will be all up ons!
Or maybe I can scrape the little Strongbad off my old bag and duct-tape it to my new bag.
