Hat Chat

Since my favorite hats are all either shrunk or worn out, I decided to look for a new one.

I was disappointed to find that the Hat Company at Arizona Mills was no longer in business. The cashier at Rack Room Shoes (MetroMart) told me that there was still one open at Fiesta Mall.

That wasn't entirely true; the store at Fiesta Mall is called The Hat Zone. It has much the same inventory, though it didn't have any large or extra-large crushable wool fedoras. I ended up buying a leather hat for less than $30. It looks pretty good, and even seems to hold up well against the heat in the summer. It does project more of a rural, cowboyish image than I was hoping to project in Tokyo. The less like a Bush-supporter I look like overseas, the better. But it probably won't make that much of a difference. It'll protect my head from the sun, and it'll keep my head somewhat warm at night.

While shopping, I met the owner of the Hat Zone, and I learned that he decided to open his own store after losing his job at the Hat Company. And I learned that the old store closed one month after the new store opened.
