Yahoo Go players
Dec. 3rd, 2002 01:46 pmBeing a beginning Go player, I obviously want to start out on a small board and play some capturing games before I take the larger boards and such...
Since it didn't require downloading and installing a client, except in the Java applet sense, I went first to Yahoo Games.
It seemed that the smallest game I could get people to join was a 13x13 board, and after I got soundly spanked in that game he asked me if I wanted to try a bigger board, and seemed completely oblivious to the idea that I might not be ready for the full-sized board just yet. It then occurred to me that he might have just been trying to pump up his rating, the way people on Starcraft servers will start a 7-on-1 game against a weak computer opponent to make themselves look impressive, with blatant disregard for sportsmanship.
I think I shall try going on an IGS server next, because I've read the FAQs and there are actual etiquette guidelines there... so with luck it'll be easier to find patient people.
