So
customer service is becoming a joke in this country. I'm not surprised. That's why I let my parents pay for my cell phone; not to save me money, but to save me from having to deal with them.
That's also why I'm constantly surprised by my cable company, Cox Communications. When I'm having trouble, the worst thing I've ever had to put up with is the occasional long hold time. "Who hasn't been forwarded from a representative to an associate to a technician, only to be put on hold and forced to listen to endless Kenny G, punctuated by a recording that repeats the same lies?" ME, that's who!
I'm fortunate that Cox has been so helpful, since they're a cable company and could get away with some horrible shit if they wanted to. But if I ever need to sign up for a DSL line somewhere, change my cell phone service, or sign up to any service where there's an option, I'll be sure to check with the BBB to make sure I pick the option that won't rip me off.
Supposing the BBB's results are inconclusive, though... how else can I tell the difference between a credible company and one that will keep charging me after I cancel?
