Thanks to my parents and [livejournal.com profile] jecook for helping with Phase 1 of the move. First, the story of selecting the apartment.

We arrived at the complex and got our keys to Apartmenr 1168. We arrived, and... hey, free couch! Free cracked-to-hell leather couch! And, free newspaper, free depleted batteries, free cobwebs... free cigarette smoke residue. I marched down the the manager's office and demanded they give me an apartment with less free stuff or I would go elsewhere with my money and furniture.

Fortunately, the woman who had initially showed me around the complex back in December came into work about that time, and she was able to miraculously pull a thoroughly-cleaned second-floor apartment seemingly out of thin air. She walked us there to make sure it was all right, and I gave the green light and moving commenced.

Phase 1 of the move included what I assumed to be all the essentials: bed, computer, food, toiletries. And I had assumed that this coincided with the subset of my possessions that had been at my parents' house all this time. But it did turn out there were gaps.

For example, I brought my computar machene and all my peripherals, but not the power cables for my computer or cable modem, or a power strip, or enough tables on which to store all this stuff.

I have all my clothes, but no chest-of-drawers-like furniture, though I have plenty of closet space, and the shelves by the water heater might work for that.

Also, conditioner but no shampoo. THE HORROR!

But some things have taken shape. The bed is up there, and the computer desk has been put together. I bought power cables for the computer, so it's alive, if isolated. Sid Meier's Alpha Cenaturi is providing me with a way to skip over a few hours whenever it's convenient. They should call it Sid Meier's Time Machine. Also, the tiny black and white TV I did have all the parts for allowed me to watch a very above-average SNL episode. I have four portable chairs, in descending order of comfort: one blue collapsible outdoor lounge chair, one red inflatable sofa chair, and two chairs that go with the card table I'm borrowing until the bulk of my furniture gets here in Phase 2.

Phase 1.5 will consist of those who can't make it to Phase 2 helping me get a few boxes at a time out of storage. This is actually good, since getting all that stuff in here at once in Phase 2 may prove overwhelming.

And, of course, that leads us to Phase 2. April 27, I will round up as much manpower as I can in order to move the contents of my storage bin into my apartment. In return, I shall purchase for them pizza and/or Chinese food, and debut the new Mentos flavors I brought back from the duty-free shop in Frankfurt. I may even uncover some things I don't want anymore, in which case I shall put them up for grabs. And for manpower, I will attempt to round up relatives, friends, co-workers, THEM members... whoever I can.

But until then, I plan... and I get accustomed to the new security procedures at the apartment. I hit my head on the fire department access button, but I'll post that story as soon as I can remember the rest of it.
