Parents' Hmas party.
Dec. 23rd, 2001 10:19 pmI was the first to arrive at the party, my father having picked me up...
My mother had gone through a lot of trouble, and a lot of fun, decorating the entire place with a sort of snowman motif. She decorated some sugar cookies, as always, but this year the frosting came out a little different, and as such when she used different colors, they would blend together like an oil painting. And there was the occasional "blaugh" gingerbread man with a ho-hum expression spelled out in sprinkles on its face. There was also the typical assortment of other cookies, and ham, and a shrimp platter.
Most of the people who attended were people I'd never really met. I got to hear some of Dad's friends who play Asheron's Call tell us about the romantic exploits of another of Dad's friends online, a woman who had two boyfriends, both of whom she knew through Asheron's Call, and how their relationships were thrown into chaos by what could only be described as an episode of Three's Company that erupted when they all tried to meet in person.
When most everyone had left, I walked Murphy around a couple of blocks and looked at all the Christmas lights.
I'll be staying here a couple of nights. I'm going to periodically ping my home PC, and call apartment security if it stops responding. Maybe I should have left the webcam running too, but I don't want to be paranoid. It's not like Christmas looters target apartment complexes, right?
