Secondary news.

I used to turn on CNN and see if anything interesting was happening in the world. Now it's just terrorists this, Afghanistan that, middle east this, fundamentalists that, ground zero this, Bush says this and that.... "Tonight on Larry King: the anthrax threat now compounded by the falling sky threat! Joining us on the panel are Henny Penny and Chicken Little."

I think there should be a Secondary News Network. Its job would be to report all the news except the top story. Granted, it might be difficult because all the news is, in fact, interrelated. But there continue to be scientific breakthroughs, product releases, entertainment, worldwide news that has nothing to do with the middle east, etc. The closest thing we have to that is ESPN.

I'm not saying it would make us feel any better; news as American broadcasters repot it is generally depressing. But at least it wouldn't be repetitive.

good week

OK. I work 6:00 to 2:00 this upcoming week, which means I'll have a lot of free time while everyone else in town is at work.

So what I've got to do with that time is:

• Fetch my passport
• Return or figure out this hard drive
• Call DeVry's job placement office
• Go see K-PAX.
• Get in a nap Tuesday so's I can still go dancing.

Wow. Two Harry Earles movies in one night on TCM. First the infamous Freaks, and then The Unholy Three, a silent movie.

All my favorite Sunday night shows are on an hour later, and I have to wake up early to be at work at 6:00. Perhaps I shall program my VCR.
