Time to get up and start my day!

I installed my new 256-meg thingy of RAM. I first thought I only had two DIMM slots to put them in, and since I already had two thingies of RAM, I'd have to remove one. But, it turned out I had three, so I plugged it in and started her up. 64 + 128 + 256 == 448 megs! Sweet! Except, that Windows wouldn't start, even in safe mode. I tried taking out the 64-meg thingy, replaced it with the 256-meg thingy, and it worked. But still, I'd feel better if I could effectively test it....

I decided to take the bus to Fry's. It's only a mile down the road, but it's so humid and the UV index is through the roof today. It worked extremely well; I only had to wait five minutes to take the bus there and two minutes to take the bus back. The bus is a great way to get around if you know the schedule enough to pull that sort of thing off. Of course, studying the schedule never works... I only remember that I see the eastbound bus when I walk to work at :45 after the hour, and that one time I was on my way home at 7:30 and I had just told someone that this route stops running around 7:00, and then the bus passed me. So I left about 1:40, got home at 2:30. It must be my fastest errand of that magnitude ever; usually even buying socks takes me at least an hour and a half.

In other news, a story on ABC news talks about people who buy these gigantic dream homes on the edge of town, and end up on a 45-minute average commute to work. Well, shit, I walk to and from work and it's 15 minutes each way. Suck it, America!

I got a new set of wireless headphones, and it turns out my bedroom lamp burned out the other day, so I got to buy one of those new coily eco-bulbs. Works great. Plenty bright enough, and you can put your hand right on it and it won't burn. Ought to be a lot more comfortable in here; sometimes it's quite pleasant in here without the air conditioning on, but lamps tend to heat the place up, and I don't exactly need that right now.
